Aloe Vera is a succulent, or water-retaining plant that grows to about 30-40 inches tall. The plant is green in color. Aloe Vera is widely used in food supplements, beverages, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Aloe Vera has also been used as an ornamental plant. It does not require high levels of water to survive; therefore, it is able to thrive in rockeries or other low-water areas. Historically, Aloe has been used for many health conditions. Transparent gel from the pulp of the leaves of Aloe Vera has been used as a topical agent to treat skin infections, burns, wounds, and dermatological conditions for thousands of years. Traditionally, the dried latex from the inner lining of the leaf has been used as a laxative.
